RESEARCH

Theoretical Foundation

Many researchers, educators and parents recognize the role noncognitive skills play in student success, but schools often lack the time and resources to effectively address these skills. At BTEC we incorporate skill-building into each and every intervention, based on student or program need. Read more about what the research says here.

RELATUS, the podcast

If you're into education and looking for research, you've found a new favorite podcast. RELATUS features stories and conversations with young people from Chicago and BTEC's own Brea Adams attempts to provide context at every level, using data to make connections and highlight systemic inequities. (Some episodes even contain footnotes for those who really want to dive in.)

Assessing Noncognitive Skills

Not only do we model our interactions and experiences with social/emotional learning in mind, we also take time to assess need and collect data throughout each facet of our programming. Our educators build their sessions with a few standards in mind and assess students throughout, and our tutors assess initial need and plan interventions accordingly.
